Job Description
We are looking for a versatile VFX artist with a specialization in particles & materials. Candidates should have a drive to work closely with design and art to execute on a wide range of environmental, cinematic and gameplay applications. VFX are at the very heart of our workflow, and the core team has a deep well of experience in this area. As such, we are open and interested in junior to mid-level VFX artists and helping them grow as part of our team.
On our current project, VFX are a core part of our design. Your ability to achieve emotion, impact and tone with proper use of effects will be crucial to the game’s success. Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with the art, design & engineering teams to build tunable VFX systems that can be thoughtfully integrated by designers
- Creating VFX systems that are reactive to player actions and blend seamlessly with underlying art assets
- Understanding when to use particle systems, material functions or lighting techniques to accomplish the vision for a given scene
- Driving scenes forward independently until they’re ready for feedback
Requirements & Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of Unreal Engine’s Cascade particle system and materials workflows
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine & Blueprints
- Ability to translate 2D mockups, mograph & references into custom hero effects
- Comfortable taking direction and notes, and rapidly iterating on a scene
- Driven to self-educate in new and alternative approaches
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in a small team setting
- Independent problem solver
Bonus Skills
- Experience with Unreal Engine’s Niagara particle system
- Familiarity with post-processing effects in Unreal Engine
- Remote work experience
