Fan Content & Mod Policy

Last Updated: August 20, 2026

Games can connect with people on a personal level and can have a deep meaning for those who play them. That's true of what our community creates from them too, the art, videos, mods, cosplay, and everything else inspired by these worlds. This page explains what you can and can't do with our games and characters, so you can create and share with confidence.

By using anything from our games, including logos, character names, appearances, stories, scenes, dialogue, catch phrases, locations, concepts, maps, items, artwork, animation, music, sound effects, code, or any other intellectual property (which we collectively call our "Game IP”), to make your own videos, art, photos, and other similar materials (which we collectively call your “Fan Content”) or “Mods”, you're agreeing to this Fan Content & Mod Policy (or just the “Policy”). If you don't agree to this Policy, please don't use our Game IP. Using it also means you're agreeing to our Privacy Policy and any terms specific to the game in question, both of which are part of this Policy.

One important thing up front: using our work or Game IP without permission, meaning outside of what this Policy allows, isn't okay. It's a violation of our rights, and we can and might ask you to take it down.

This Policy covers the games listed at annapurnainteractive.com . It doesn't cover our films, TV shows, or other non-game work, which may be subject to their own policies.

The Short Version

You're welcome to play, share, remix, and create around our games for your own enjoyment and for your community, non-commercially. What we ask in return: don't sell our work, don't imply we endorsed you, don't use our IP commercially, and don't create anything that could harm someone or reflect poorly on the games. Full details below.

1. What We're Giving You

As long as you follow this Policy, we're giving you a personal license to use our Game IP to make and share Fan Content and Mods, for your own non-commercial, community use. This license can be revoked if you don't follow the rules, and it isn't transferable, meaning you can't pass it along or sublicense it to someone else.

In return, you're giving us full permission to use anything you make (your Fan Content or Mods) in any way we see fit without any ability to take back that right and without us owing you any future compensation. That's a real legal commitment, worth reading closely rather than skimming. Practically, it means: if we want to reshare your cosplay photo, feature your fan art, or reference your video, we can, without needing to track you down for a separate okay each time.

Now for the legal part: Subject to your compliance with this Policy, Annapurna gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable, and limited license to use, share, distribute, and create derivative works based upon our Game IP for your non-commercial, community use for Fan Content or Mods. In consideration of this limited license, you hereby grant Annapurna and its affiliates and licensors all the necessary consents, clearances, and an irrevocable, sublicensable, worldwide, royalty-free, and perpetual license and right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, display, and distribute any Fan Content or Mod. You waive and agree never to assert against Annapurna and its affiliates and licensors any moral rights or similar rights, however designated, that you may have in or to any Fan Content and Mods.

2. Who Owns What

Anything original that you created (your art style, your commentary, your written story) is yours. But anything that comes from us (e.g., our characters, world, art, music, code) is still ours, no matter how it's remixed or used in your Fan Content or Mod. Making a Mod doesn't give you any ownership over the underlying game.

Again, now for the legal part: Any Fan Content or Mods that you create will belong to you only insofar as the Fan Content or Mod contains your original creative work. You acknowledge and agree that all right, title, and interest in and to any elements of the Fan Content or Mod which represent, comprise, derive, or are based upon our Game IP, including, without limitation, copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property contained in our games are owned by Annapurna.

3. Use Our Disclaimer, Please

Please include this line somewhere visible on your Fan Content or Mod:

“This product is not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by Annapurna.”

We're not liable for anything that happens with your Fan Content or Mod. This disclaimer just makes that clear to everyone else too.

4. What We're Happy to See

This isn't an exhaustive list, but here's what's okay:

Playing or posting videos of our games on Twitch, YouTube, Meta, X, Discord, or Reddit

An original Mod that doesn't copy our Game IP and has no monetization features

A Mod you and your friends commission and fund privately, for your own use

Fan art, shared on social media (e.g., “check out this fan art I made from this game”)

Small-batch, handmade merch, made by hand or with minimal third-party involvement (no manufacturer), given away for free rather than sold for profit

Cosplay, costumes, props, or accessories inspired by our characters, for personal, non-commercial, fan-expressive purposes, including at conventions or community events, as long as it isn't mass-produced or sold for profit

5. What We Can't Allow

Also non-exhaustive, but here's where we draw the line:

Using our Game IP in ways that are discriminatory, offensive, vulgar, obscene, defamatory, violent, or otherwise inappropriate or damaging to our Game IP, including anything racist, sexist, or harmful to any person

Using our Game IP to promote alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, gambling, drugs, or anything illegal

Violating someone else's privacy, publicity, or IP rights

Copying or redistributing our games (e.g., selling copies)

Including someone else's IP in your Mod or Fan Content without their permission, keep it original

Implying you're affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorized by us

Using our Game IP in ads or marketing materials

Adding monetization features to your Fan Content or Mod

Hacking our games, or using our Game IP to distribute viruses, Trojan horses, worms, logic bombs, or other malicious or technologically harmful material

Cloning or porting our games

Using our code or software to build another game

Running your own or third-party servers for a Mod

Selling prints, shirts, or other merch featuring our Game IP at scale or for commercial use

Minting NFTs using our IP

We reserve the right to deny anyone the use of our Game IP at any time, for any reason or no reason, including whenever we decide, in our sole and absolute discretion, that our Game IP is being used inappropriately. We also reserve the right to issue a formal takedown request for any Fan Content or Mod that infringes our IP rights or otherwise violates this Policy. If we deny you the use of our Game IP or issue a takedown request, you'll need to stop using, sharing, and distributing your Fan Content or Mod right away.

We don't monitor and don't endorse or approve any Fan Content or Mods. You're solely responsible for what you make and share. To the fullest extent the law allows, we don't take on any responsibility or liability for any Fan Content or Mods, for removing them, or for any delay or failure in removing them.

We may update this Policy from time to time, so we'd encourage checking back if you're ever unsure.
